Combination products containing 500mg paracetamol and 200mg ibuprofen per dose (up to a maximum of 10g paracetamol and 4g ibuprofen per pack ie 20 tablets) will reportedly soon be available without a prescription after a change to the drug prescription ordinance was approved by the Federal Council (Bundesrat). The switch from prescription to non-prescription (pharmacy-only) status was reportedly recommended last summer by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte, BfArM)’s expert advisory committee for prescription-only issues.
